In Sales – Everyone Is Part Of The Team

As a successful entrepreneur, sales is second nature to you; after all, it is your superior people skills and sales savvy that have catapulted you to the top. Sales is in your DNA, it’s what you were born to do, and for all intents and purposes it comes easily to you, it’s no big deal. Yes, you have spent countless years perfecting your technique and it has paid off, but what about the other members of your team, are they “selling” you and your business when you are not around?

Not everyone is a natural born salesperson, and generally speaking it is not one of those professions that you can simply take a course and be successful at. There are many members of your team that provide valuable skills and experience in their chosen fields that your business depends on to function optimally. Financial wizards, strategists, marketing gurus, front-line personnel and even part-timers should become non-professional sales people, promoting and selling you and your company during and even off working hours.

If your business adopts the mindset “everyone is in sales” and you provide training and support for this belief to every member of your team, just imagine how much more successful your business could become. It is like an army of people working for the same purpose – the betterment and growth of the company.

The mere thought of selling anything can instill fear, anxiety and confusion to staff members that are not in professional sales, so it is important to explain the details. Firstly, ensure them that they are not expected to “sell” anything per se which will calm them down. Be sure they are aware that becoming involved in “selling” will not require them to stop what they are currently doing, but will become a natural extension of their current position.

Let’s face it, everyone, regardless of their career path has to sell themselves from time to time, whether it’s at a job interview, socially, professionally or promoting an idea to friends, colleagues or their boss – so why not extend that to selling your company, their employer?

Team building meetings are an ideal opportunity to incorporate some “selling” techniques like why your company is different, your experience and track record, your mission statement and values. Every team member should know this information by heart and use it with customers, potential customers and in their everyday life with family and friends.

In the end, the more people waving your banner and cheerleading for you and your business the better – sales is not for everyone, but selling something you believe in and have knowledge of is a different story.
