Understanding the Entrepreneurial Mindset of Real Estate Team Leaders

Entrepreneurs, in the purest sense, are those who identify a need – any need – and fill it. It’s a primordial urge, independent of product, service, industry or market. Many people are drawn to the entrepreneurial lifestyle without any appreciation for the amount of hard work that goes with it.

Being an entrepreneur is different from being a success. Success is usually marked by the status of being near the top of your field, a large salary, and perhaps even being noteworthy, but these attributes don’t equate to being a successful entrepreneur.

There is a specific skillset that is the hallmark of successful entrepreneurs – you might be surprised that they are not necessarily the big attention-getting characteristics you see in the headlines, but rather a state of mind leading to innately needing to do something valuable for themselves, their employees, their investors and their communities.

The following are 4 characteristics of successful entrepreneurs:

They’re ‘Big Picture’ Thinkers

While it’s true that the business is based on their idea, the business is not about them, and many others have contributed to the success. They do not use company resources to enhance their persona or lifestyle, but instead take great pleasure in appreciating how their idea has flourished and come into its own. It can be likened to having a child, you may have created the entity, but it must exist separately from you and eventually fend for itself.

They’re Leaders, Motivators, and Enthusiasts

Effective leaders make things possible for others and don’t insist that others make things possible for them. They deeply value the importance of their employees and let them do their jobs creatively always being respectful of their input. They provide leadership, training and support encouraging them to succeed.

They’re All About The Business’ Best Interests

Successful entrepreneurs embrace their role and understand that it encompasses the task of responsible steward. This translates into making some (or many) sacrifices to ensure the company prospers. At times this can even lead to foregoing their own paycheque in order to pay employees and suppliers.

They Don’t Believe in Overnight Success

They comprehend that success is a process, it almost never happens overnight. A successful business is more than a great idea, securing proper funding and office space then quickly cashing out to live on a private island. While a small percentage of business start-ups will hit it big, most entrepreneurs will face ups and downs and temporary roadblocks before they are able to look at all they’ve done, how far they’ve come and enjoy the financial rewards.

The successful entrepreneurs I have had the pleasure of knowing, operate their businesses using the same criteria as they do for their personal life. It’s not about a set of checkpoints to complete, or bragging rights related to milestones achieved, it about totally enjoying the process, even the struggles.
